Music Video Production Blog


In order to plan out our video, we all brainstormed ideas for the video concept. Then, we created a storyboard to plan out the shots, which I said last time. Next, we scout locations and gather a general idea of where we want to go. On the day of the shoot, we will prepare the set by moving some things around just so we could get the best angles possible. Before we get there, we all will do our hair, makeup, and wardrobe. When the scenes only have one of us, the others can film. We may do multiple takes for each scene. After the shoot, the footage will be reviewed and edited. Visual effects and color correction may be added. The video is then finalized and ready to be released. It's a collaborative process that brings the artist's vision to life! When filming our music video, there can be a few challenges to overcome. One challenge is finding the perfect location that matches the vision of the video. Another challenge is coordinating schedules and availability of all the group members involved. I already mentioned how we had some scheduling issues, but we have resolved those. Weather conditions can also pose a challenge, as outdoor shoots, which we are considering, may be affected by rain or extreme temperatures. Additionally, technical issues like equipment malfunctions or limited time for setup can cause delays. The only recording devices we have are iPhones, but since there are four of us, there can easily be a backup phone to film on. With proper planning and teamwork, these challenges can be overcome to create an amazing music video!! We are all hoping everything goes smoothly.

Today, we decided to go out and finish filming and editing! A few days ago, we all texted each other and asked who was free on which days. The only day we all had free time was today. We all decided to show up to Sammie’s house at 10 AM to get an early start. Last night, when we were planning, Sammie decided to make some of our props for today. She printed off colored paper with Isaac and I’s names on them. She wrapped the pages around old books so it looked like our names were printed on the book spines. Each of our names were accompanied by a title such as, “Edited by..” We were going to use these for title cards in the video. She sent pictures of the completed books and we all agreed it looked great. Sammie said that we could finish the rest of our props tomorrow morning. We thought so too, so we wished each other goodnight and got to Sammie’s house the next morning! Traffic was rough, but we all got there as soon as we could. Production Blog: Finishing up!

  To start my forward progress up again, I gathered all the new footage I wanted to include in the video. I imported the footage into a video editing software, Capcut, on my iPhone. I organized the clips in the order I wanted them to appear in the final video. This was a little harder than I originally anticipated, but I figured out the order I wanted. Then, I trimmed the clips to remove any unwanted parts that did not fit the time frame or seemed unnecessary. Next, I added some transitions between the clips to create a smooth flow. I tried my best to adjust the color and brightness of the footage to enhance the overall look. The video looked overall cleaner once I color graded. To make my commercial more engaging, I added text and captions at key moments. This also gave insight into what I was doing, if the picture or clip was not fully clear. Psychological Thriller Research: In the Tall Grass

What conventions of psychological thrillers that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? In the Tall Grass has many conventions found in classic psychological thriller movies. This movie includes many tracking shots following the characters through the maze that is the tall grass, high angles to make the characters look vulnerable, and establishing shots above the tall grass. Many cutaways are used for when there is a jump scare and a significant amount of cross cutting when the characters are all running in different locations to give the impression that their actions are all unfolding at the same time, just in different locations. Not many props are used in this movie and there is only two settings: the field and a church. All of the characters are covered in dirt and remain in the same clothes the entire time.  What conventions of psychological thrillers did the movie have that you liked?
